I hate to be negative, but I just don't believe you.

You must have made mistakes and broken at least one rule.
(There are many good suggestions above, but I'd bet that you weren't turning round cards in to ships every round.)

Why don't you try to replicate the game and record each action. (I challenge you to make me eat my words.)
If you can either video it, or list every single action taken, then maybe I will believe your claim.

Yeah, something just doesn't add up. While I'm conceding it is possible to buy/build all buildings early on, I just don't see how you can still easily feed your workers AND get 200+ points per player. I may be wrong, but in a 3 player game, there is only about 300 points worth of buildings (give or take). All players playing optimally would mean about 100 points per player. That still leaves 100+ points to collect and that requires a fair amount of shipping. But there weren't a lot of boats built.

So I am now wondering that assuming everything we've been told is accurate, were they reading the shipping rule properly? A boat can only hold a certain number of goods, that is individual tokens. Some people read this and think it means types of goods as opposed to individual tokens. So, for example, they will ship a whole ton of 3 different good types instead of just 3 tokens.
