Both are great games as is Ora et Labora (mentioned in the thread). I would favor Caylus over Le Havre simply because I don't like the loan mechanics in Le Havre. Great game, just needs to fix the loan mechanics. If borrow 10 dollars from the bank and pay 1 dollar interest, logic would say that when I borrow $10,000, I should be paying $1,000 in interest, not $1.Ora is simply a great game without the feeding panic that comes along with the Gric and Le Havre. In Ora, the feeding phase is simply, how much better off am I going to be after the phase, not Oh Shit!
Now Caylus is probably the heaviest strategy out there for worker placement. The big problem with Caylus is when you are playing with players of various skill levels. The problem is not nearly as drastic as Puerto Rico where sitting next to the newbie can almost always skew the game in ones favor.
