I would definitely look into it, and I think you will most likely enjoy it, depending on what it is you love about Agricola. Le Havre has much more flexibility in both the actions available and the strategies you can follow, but each action (building) makes thematic sense. Le Havre is also FAR more forgiving, and will not cause as much nerve-wracking tension as does Agricola's constant food concerns. There are many that favor one game over the other, but I slightly prefer Agricola because of its theme and the spatial element of your farm construction - something that is completely absent in Le Havre. Good luck, and enjoy!

BTW - I spent many summers in Geneva, at my grandmother's small home right on Seneca Lake - what a beautiful, and often overlooked, part of NY...

Not necessarily. Personally, I love Agricola, but I'm only lukewarm on Le Havre. I find Le Havre to be more frustrating, since it's much easier for opponents to block you. Also, with Agricola, other than a handful of opponent improvements/occupations that you need to keep track of, all of the information is right there in front of you to see. In Le Havre, the information is scattered around the table and I found it much harder to keep track of my options. I recommend trying before you buy.

If the theme appeals to you, get it!

I wrote the rest of this when maybe I wasn't really addressing the very simple question being asked... maybe it helps somebody out there.

I like Le Havre much more than Agricola at this point, but I'm comparing apples to oranges. I've only played Agricola as a board game, and Le Havre on iOS. My observations, though:

A couple differences between the games is that Le Havre's information is entirely open, whereas in Agricola using cards, each player's hand is secret--players can take each other a bit by surprise and benefit from good card draws.

Le Havre's turn mechanics are much simpler, with one action + buying/selling to deal with, rather than 2 or more actions that must work together. (I'm prone to AP, my group would like me better playing Le Havre!)

Le Havre's scoring seems to be a bit easier to get a handle on for me--add together buildings, ships and money, as opposed to negative points for having only 1 field, or 3 points whether you have six or seven sheep.

The scoring in Le Havre isn't as painful in another respect: in Le Havre, you're richer than when you began the game. It's just a pure wealth building exercise. In Agricola, well, I find there's kind of a sense of failure since a farm is usually going to be missing something at the end of the game. (Somebody who likes Agricola because it's about building a farm might find Le Havre a little flat.)

I'm a geography nut and Francophile, so I like the fact that Le Havre is loosely (and sometimes non-so-loosely) based on the real place.

Both games are good, I'd like to play more Agricola (and would love to see it on iOS) to make the same kind of learning investment as I have with Le Havre.

Le Havre is more "mathy" and calculating than Agricola. Some people might feel that it is a bit dry, especially since there's no farm to build.

Another difference is that it can take a smidge longer to play.

I think i lean slightly towards Agricola but would happily play either.

My wife loves Agricola but hates le havre - we have only played le havre two player so I often think it might be better with more players. I am ok with le havre - their are some similar mechanics but I would not necessarily saying liking on one means you like the other.

I recently bought Le Havre on my iPad and I have really enjoyed it. I'm trying to play it online now, and having some trouble. I assume the problem is with not having other committed players, rather than a program glitch. So, is there anyone out there that wants to play? I'd prefer a 3p or 4p game, but would do a 2p game too. I'd say I'm an intermediate player, definitely not advanced but I don't think I'm terrible at the game :-).

I guess the best way to do it is if you add me as a friend on gamecenter. My account is schoonmj@gmail.com.

Thanks :-).

I would look at Ora et Labora as well before deciding. If I had to choose 2 out of 3 I would go for Agricola and Le Havre though as I think there is a bit more separation between them and they have more replayability

You can do what you like - it's your game! :D

But .... I think if you had all the buildings in a two-player game, you wouldn't get to the higher numbers before the game ended.

Maybe if you made 6 piles instead of three, that might make it a bit better, but the problem will still be there a little.

I do not recommend it. Let's see, what you miss and why I don't think it's a good idea to include the given building (although, admittedly, some wouldn't hurt):

[02] Sawmill
There are enough construction buildings. This one would make the 2p game even too easy.

[04] Joinery
Too easy access to money in the early game. With more players there is more competition to wood than in 2p. Players would be able to buy Wooden ships too easily.

[06] Hardware Store
Wouldn't hurt, but I don't like the easy access to bricks in 2p here.

[11] Arts Centre
Utterly useless.

[13] Black Market
Likely over-powered in 2p.

[15] Local Court
Useless in 2p. Players will get rid of their loans via shipping more easily. In multiplayer it is not guaranteed that you'll ship often enough as there is much more competition for that.

[17] Wharf
One Wharf is enough, you don't need another one.

[19] Grocery Market
Rather useless, but unharmful.

[21] Business Office
Too easy access to Steel. In multiplayer this is essential as a counter-strategy to the Steel Mill. Plus, in multiplayer there is more competition for Steel.

[24] Storehouse
Rather useless due to (rather) easy access to the Shipping Line.

[26] Dock
Over-powered in 2p. A minimum of 3 ships per player is the norm.

[27] Bridge over the Seine
See Storehouse.
