Start means the town owns it, so set it aside from the 3 building proposal stacks. When the town owns a building, you can place your worker there to use it, but remember to pay the entry cost on it to the bank.

As for the "can only be bought," that just means when it's in the building proposal stacks, you can't pay resources to build it. You have to use an additional buy action.

You're right except buying doesn't use your action for the turn. Buying and selling are free actions to be taken as many times as you like on your turn.
That's why I said additional.:)

But... on the back of the Wharf card, there is no TICK and START for solo and 2-player game. Should I still add it to the town buildings at the set up?

Also, why is the Wharf card having an orange background title? Does that mean anything special about this card?

There are two wharf cards included in the game. There's no tick for 1 or 2 players on ONE wharf because two wharves aren't needed. Check the other wharf card. It's ticked.

Hmmm.... so that's the same for Clay Mound, I guess? Even it is in one of the building proposal piles, it cannot be built? I don't need to visit the building/construction firms and I still can buy it as an additional action? Can it be moved to town building at the end of round?

I'd like to see this theory backed up by some experiential reports.

I just completed a compilation of about 150 games we played, over a few years. Mostly 2 player but several 3 player games too.

The scores are broken down into cash, ships and building components. I'll post the data in the near future.

For example A, B and C players as a moving sequence in the first round, then what is the sequence in the final action?

Besides the final action sequence, does the starting player get the advantage in the game?

Buildings #12 and #17 are Wharves. Wharf #12 is used in every game, regardless of player count. It has a tick on its back for all player counts.

Its orange background indicates that it is used to build something. The Building Firms (B1 and B2), the Construction Firm (B3) and the Sawmill (#02) also have a special background.

No. The only two ways the Clay Mound ever leaves the Building Proposals piles are:

- you buy it as an additional action during your turn
- the town builds it at the end of the round if it is the building with the lowest number (in the short version, the town builds a building at the end of each round)

I see. That clears away a lot of doubts in my head. Thank you all!

It has happened to me in both two and three player games. One time the Sawmill went missing, another time it was the Shipping Line. I've seen this happen about a half-dozen times.

I experienced that issue on a 2 player short game a few months back, so stopped playing short game. Haven't had any issues since.
Btw I downloaded update. I have version 1.2

I won several 5 players games without shipping anything, and actually without even building cargo ships (only luxury liners).

I did that by trying to build at least 4 (possibly all) of the following buildings:
- Wharf (maybe both) , Coillery, Iron Works, Steel Mill, Cokery
If I miss one of them, I try to have also the Brickworks or the Hardware Store.
Plus other high value buildings like the bank and other special buildings as they come.

With 5 players, the food required at the end of each round is not much (starting from 0 up to 6 in the last rounds) and by having those buildings you get enough food from the other players' entry fees (more than you'd get from ships: a wood ship provides only 1 food and an iron ship 2, not really worth the efforts).

In order to secure those buildings I plan my game carefully depending on the order of the building proposal in order to have enough materials to build two of them with the construction firm as soon as they become available (for example by visiting brickworks and hardware store at the right time in order to have the right amount of bricks and iron. This is easier if the other players are trying to collect other resources needed for shipping).

In the second half of the game the other 4 players will line up for using wharf / ironworks / coillery / cokery / steel mill allowing me to visit the arts center at least a couple of times for 12F each.

I also try to make sure to have enough steel in the last turn to build two luxury lines (if I am lucky) or a luxury line and a steel ship and possibly the bank.

This will net me between 160 and 190 points per game, which, for a 5 players game shouldn't be too bad.
