Plano 3500, interlocking circular containers for the resource markers, tuck boxes, and one baggie per player.

I've actually owned both wharves a couple times. I don't think it's really worth the effort to try for it - this is usually a move I make because there is nothing better to do at the time. But it's certainly allowed.

It might seem kind of petty, but if you own both wharfs, you are guaranteed to get paid every time someone builds a ship. Conversely, if somebody has a choice, they will usually pay the person who they think is not in the lead. Similarly, when you want to build without paying the entry fee, its difficult to be blocked out of both wharfs. Certainly not a crucial strategy and it depends on what else is available, but there are occasions where I will take the second wharf over another building if the opportunity is there.

Hi,

I've owned the ios version of Le Havre, and have enjoyed playing it on the ipad very much.

I am wondering if there will be any value-add in buying the physical board game itself which is a lot more expensive than the software version.

Does the real board game offer anything more than the ios game?

Thanks!

Umm, the ability to play with people in person? If that's not important to you and you get just as must satisfaction from an iOS game as from a physical game, then I guess the answer is no.

Also you get to move ships and chits, which I find very satisfying, I mean wooden ships! I do tend to score lower on cardboard however, too much to look at I guess!

Oh and clean-up!

The iOS version is perfectly capable of doing this, especially on an iPad or multiple iPhones/iPods.

For Le Havre, especially, the iOS version seems much better because it can be so time-consuming to prepare all the many different piles of resources when playing the physical game. There are some threads with creative solutions to that problem, though.

If you like to play football, you can buy an Xbox + Madden 13 and play online or you can play it for real with actual friends. I don't agree they provide the same type of enjoyment, but to each their own.

However, I admit that playing the iOS version of a game is an adequate surrogate when no one is around or willing to play the cardboard version.

You do not have the expansion cards or promo cards in the iOS version. So, unless you do not want to have a greater variety of special buildings (more than 80 instead of just 36), you do not need a physical copy. Of course, there is a little chance that they may add these to the iOS version of the game, but I guess the amount of work vs the potential benefit ratio is quite off towards the work part, so I doubt it will happen.

(Disclaimer: In no way am I speaking from an official point of view.)

All the above, plus you get the ship counters with food number reminders on them that are not supplied with the iOS version. If that's not reason enough one of those ship counters has my name on it!! :p
