Its kinda misleading to those who want to buy the board game version (such as myself). Looking at the ratings, I don't know if people are rating the game highly because of the ios or the board game version. What if the board game version sucks and the ios is version is really good?

In my opinion the rating on BGG should reflect the board game version only. There should be somewhere else to rate the ios version.

I have not bought this game yet. But I will be dissapointed if the high rating only applies to the IOS version (which would be less fiddly than the board game).

The iOS version DOES have it's own page:
Le Havre (The Harbor)
So, most ratings for the iOS version should be over there. In any case, the ratings for Le Havre (the physical board game) put it in the BGG top ten LONG before the iOS version came out, so it is plenty highly rated on its own merits.

Though our Australian edition doesn't quite conform throughout this entire game (e.g. the required food levels / ship supply are slightly off), it was quite enjoyable to try this.

There were some issues to be aware of if you're doing as we did: It's pretty mysterious from our cards how the 2 charcoal appeared turning Round 6, and in general the late round totals seem to be off by a couple francs here, a couple fish there (though we may have simply erred.) The worst seemed to be a shortfall of a half-dozen or more coke at one point, and in the end we totaled well short of 409 francs cash, with only about 500 points total.

That said, as a relatively new player, it's fabulous to see such coal dominance. Visiting the Cokery with 46 Coal as early as 4.7 is one of those "aha!" moments, as is the wanton disregard for debt (gotta love those perpetually falling interest rates to stimulate economies :zombie:) Something over 50% of all actions here are collecting, converting, or shipping along the Coal-Coke-Franc pipeline, often bouncing between the two most efficient avenues to manage your Person disc. I'd not seen the trick of cycling the Shipping Line back to town in Round 7 to effectively double ones ability to unload resources, and expect this will become a permanent addition to my end game.

Thanks for posting this. If I could offer some advice to future posters, it would be useful to include the game edition, and details of the Round Overview cards to ease follow-along at home. While I was first perplexed by the lack of information on Supply Tile order, it soon became clear (and very educational) to see how irrelevant it largely was - we just filled in the offers at the end of each Round. I worried, too, about ordering the Proposal decks, but laying out all the buy/builds in chronological order and working backwards to build the decks from bottom up worked fine.

:what: As far as I'm aware, all editions of the game are the same in regards to the setup cards.

There is no limit to the number of loans you may take.

Note, however, that you may only take aloan if you ned the money for either meeting the food requirement and the end of a round or for paying interest. I.e. you must not take a loan just to be able to pay for using an opponent's building, for example.

Even more generally speaking: You may only take a loan when you are forced to pay money without your fault, but you cannot do so.

- This may be the food payment at the end of a round.
- This may be an interest payment for loans you already have.
- This may be a payment due to the Dive bar.

As Jens has correctly stated, you may not take loans voluntarily.

That is what I thought but on the iOS version of the game, I owed interest on my 7th loan and they forced me to sell a building!

I am thinking there might be a limit coded in iOS version

I've had significant more loans than that playing the iOS version. (And won. In fact the problem with the iOS version is I've wound it up to the top level in three player games and I haven't come even close to losing. And I know from face to face play that while I'm a competent Le Havre player I am not a great Le Havre player. It might just be that my style - heavy on iron/coal/coke/steel, with a sideline in cattle/meat - is one the AI is particularly not good against, I don't know.)

Well, I had 7 loans and 0 gold and I had to pay interest (during opponents turn) and the app didn't ask me about taking a loan and only gave me an option of selling my building.

All,

Has anyone noticed that with the new patch the settings are not saved?

I always turn off the music but when I close and reopen, the music is back on. Curious if this is just a problem I have and maybe I need to do a reinstall.

Thx,

How do you use statistics?

0

by Mikael Ölmestig

I have used Friendless extended statistics for some time now and asked myself the question what to use the statistics for and if it impacts my behavior. For those who don’t about extended statistics, it’s a web page that present statistics based on information you submit to Boardgame Geek, especially ratings and logged plays.

The short story is that it affects me less than I imagined. I guess that when I started using it, my focus was on getting all my games played and it served as a tool to get game rotation and what to get rid of. Nowadays I focus on having a great time when playing games. I also have it as a tool to see the new games I played for the excellent New to you geeklist run by Grimwold, but I am seriously thinking about to stop contribute to that.

Now I just ponder why I have some games highly ranked which are in my collection, but don’t get played. It seems to be for several reasons.
1.El Grande – It’s like an old friend that I never see, but when I do we have a great time. This is something I should push to get to the table, despite the many new and shiny games.
2.Phoenicia – I was fatigued by playing it too much online. Maybe I have rated it too high and I have moved on to other games. That said, I would probably not say no to play it if someone offered to play it with me face to face.
3.Le Havre – A game I love, but it is really hard to get other people in my play group to play it. I also prefer to play Ora et Labora in most cases.

How do you use statistics?

I have had nine loans in the iOS version and not experienced this. You may have simply mis-tapped, or it is a specific bug in the game (equally likely given the developers history).

Tried a couple of games with friends last weekend via remobo, the connection was stable enough although we encountered a few bugs when taking back a turn, and paying off a loan during an opponents turn.. anyone else had this?
