I agree with Grant. Also "taking loans" is not just part of the dominant strategy. It should be a part of every strategy! In terms of coke being overpowered, I'm not sure it's factored into my 20+ plays. I see a lot of shipping steel/buying ships work fairly well too. Overall, its a fascinating puzzle at two players. My only complaint is that it is not very tight compared to a game like Agricola.

I suggest some "minor" ;) changes in the game for 2 players. As for me, it is much nicer game after that:

1) Starting buildings: add Marketplace

2) Remove the following cards from the game:
a. Standard buildings: 02,04,11,13,15,19,24,27.
b. Special buildings base game - purple: 001,004,006,007,010,011,012,013,017,018,019,020,023,024,025,027,029,033,035.
c. Special buildings orange - GH (from Le Grand Hameau): 01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09,10,12,13,17,18,19,20,21,24,25,27,28,30,31,33.

3) Set of cards for the 2 players game:
a. Standard buildings: all other buildings and 31 (Football Stadium - as a standard building), except 17;
b. 8 randomly chosen special buildings (mix special buildings purple and orange together).

4) If the Town constructs special building, draw 2 cards instead of 1.

5) Prepare round like for 2 players - full variant but starting offers for the shortened version: 3 Francs, 3 fish, 3 wood, 2 clay, 1 iron, 1 grain and 1 cattle on the 7 offer spaces.

6) The player must pay 1F in interest for 1-2 loans, 2F for 3 or more.

Well done, Paul! :meeple:

BTW, is Le Havre mostly "multiplayer solitaire"?

Thanks.

Thank you! There is an element of that as in most Uwe games but in this one the ability to use other player's buildings makes it more interactive. Also turns are very short so there's not huge amounts of downtime which I also like. You still get the fun puzzle that Rosenberg games give you though. It hits a sweet spot in a lot of ways.

For 4 players - do you prefer the short variant or just the normal game? Everyone complains that they don't pike playing this game with more than 3.

As your first game I would recommend the short version. After that I would only play the full game.

8 years later here, but I can't find in the rules or here an answer to this: what if the player gets some cash after his turn?

This is what happened yesterday: Player A did his last turn, paid loans except one: he only had 3 francs remaining. Then I played. I went to the Shipping Line, owned by Player A. I pay him 2 francs. Now he has 5 francs, but it is not his turn anymore. He has no more turns in the game. May he pay the loan?

I've never had any complaints about playing full game with 4. The real challenge seems to be 5 player - I've never tried that.

Players can repay loans at any time.

So to clarify, yes he may pay off the loans if not his turn, and will only take the loan penalty if they still have loans during final score counting.

Hey,

at Spiele-Offensive is an discount currently until 14.05: If you buy three you get one for free.

This means: the new Le Harve Print costs 38,99€.

Calculation:
3x38,99 = 116,97€
- 38,99 = 77,98€
- 2€ (Coupon) = 75,98€
+ 4,90€ (Shipping) = 80,88€

80,88 / 3 = 26,96€ for one copy of Le Havre. Seems like a really good price to me. I have got friends in Vienna who might bring the game to Vienna without paying extra shipping.

Please write me a message or reply here if you are interested.

So, as far as we know, there have been no rules, graphics, or component changes (beyond now having one board)?
